CamDictionary allows you to translate any word you catch with your phone camera
We've discovered CamDictionary at InSig's booth at MWC12 and it seemed to us a revolutionary app. What does it make? It can translate any word caught from your phone camera from its original language to the one you select. It supports up to 36 language so far. If you really don't know in which language is written a word, don't rack your brains: there's an "auto-detect" option that will automatically translate the word to your mother tongue. That's what it basically does, however, it includes lots of features. Let's zoom in it.
You can translate words or sentence by catching them with your camera or by typing the word (like in a regular translator). You can also catch words or sentences from pictures in your gallery. Rotate it to make it more comfortable. It will amazed how great it works. The only catch we've noticed so far is that you cannot select more than one sentence to translate. Thus, if you have a picture of a full text, you'll have to translate sentences one by one. That's a flaw but, at least, there's an history tab from where you can check the sentences you've translated.
What's more, you can update dictionaries (Collins mainly) which will enhance your app performance. From settings you can enable/disable this and many other features like vocabulary source, silence mode when capturing or default dictionary. Free version doesn't allow you to listen to the word pronunciation. If you want to enable that feature you better upgrade to the full version which doesn't have this restriction.
CamDictionary is a new concept of translating app that makes the most of camera items recognition. Really useful when you travel to other countries, specially if you're Asian and come to the Western or vice versa.
Got stuck in a totally unfamiliar language environment? When you could not manually input to search for results, even the most powerful electronic dictionaries would be just useless! CamDictionary – your personal translator anytime and anywhere!
