Many people like to have tropical fish for pets because they are low maintenance, and can be very relaxing to watch them swim. This free guide gives you lots of information about tropical fish keeping.

There are more different types of tropical fish for you to choose from, and they have a larger variety of colors then cold water fish and keeping them in an aquarium together with other tropical fish does not have to be a gamble when you follow proper advice. The first thing you need to do is some reading about setting up your aquarium before purchasing any tropical fish for your tank.

Did you know that the keeping of fish dates back to antiquity? It may be true but only recently has the activity become popular among all age groups. Have you joined the multitudes who have recently contributed to the popularity of keeping tropical fish? .

Aquariums come in three different types: coldwater, warm water (freshwater heated) or marine. If you are keeping tropical fish, you almost certainly have a heated aquarium. Remember, tropical fish come from the tropics where it’s warm. The Amazon, Africa and the south of Asia are where most tropical fish originated.

Most pet and fish stores have all in one packages that include everything you need to get started keeping tropical fish: aquarium, stand, lights, heater, filter and gravel and other decorative additions. If you’re just starting out, this is a good way to go since you will save money over buying all the components individually.

Be sure to ask the store personnel for advice on which fish are the hardiest and easiest fish to keep. These may include tetras, danios, barbs, Livebearers and Cordyoras. Also, don’t add too many fish at a time as the aquarium needs time to mature and get “broken in”. Adding too many at once will not allow the tank to develop the bacteria needed to break down the fish’s waste.

Whether your planning on starting a freshwater tropical fish tank or a saltwater aquarium, it goes without saying that it will be much more rewarding in the long run to do things right, right out of the box.

Not everything about fish is as intuitive as an inexperienced hobbyist may think. For example, it may not be obvious to everyone that you shouldn’t keep big fish in a small tank, or that small fish probably won’t fair well with larger more aggressive stock. And, unless you follow the advice of the store clerk where you buy fish, you may not know that putting multiple male Betta fish in the same fish tank is a bad idea!

As for general maintenance and setup, there are some essential steps that must be observed before your fish are ever introduced to their new home.
This brief primer will help you walk away with a better understanding of what is involved with creating a stable and healthy environment for your fish.

Reading about fish will give you an idea of what species of fish eat other fish, and which ones do not. It will also let you know which meat eating fish will live with what other fish, and make it less of a gamble that you are just buying one fish an expensive meal.

Just remember that each Tropical fish does have a personality of their own and no matter how much you read that one fish will be friendly with another it putting them in an Aquarium together is always a risk.

You may want to get a more aggressive type of catfish, but if you get a large one it will surely eat the Cichlids, but if it too small you are gambling that the Cichlids will not pick its eyes out.

Cichlids are a surface to medium depth fish. This means they will swim on the top and middle of the tank and will generally not go to the bottom of the tank for very long.

A good tank, kept properly can give you and your family hours of enjoyment and relaxation.. so download this free app NOW.
