Gibberbot is a FREE, open-source SECURE chat client capable of firewall and filter circumvention, surveillance blocking and end-to-end encryption. It works with Google, Facebook, any Jabber or XMPP server, such as OpenFire or eJabberD. To use end-to-end encryption, both people must use an app like Gibberbot, ChatSecure (iOS), Pidgin (Linux/Windows), Adium (Mac) or Jitsi.
Gibberbot can be used with "Orbot: Tor on Android" app to connect to chat server over the Tor Network, in order to get through firewalls and filters to blocked chat services and servers.

It connects, I can send messages to my contacts but I can't start an encrypted session. I've used OTR with pidgin before and I had no problems. Using a galaxy nexus.

Just upgraded from latest F-droid ver. 0.0.10RC6: 1)Dropped option "Remember my password"? Seems on by default. User shouldn't be forced to trust you on how you write password on "disk". 2)Login screen doesn't show check boxes when in dark scheme. Will do

This app is a great no frills XMPP client. The only issue I have with the application is listing contacts twice on some devices and not on other with the same settings set. Overall 4/5.

The app does encrypt when it sends and decrypt receiving. The problem is that if you store your history it is unencrypted in the database. This is probably true of the messages in memory to. If they fix that security hole I give them a better score.

Its an awesome app, though recently i've had problems trying to verify contacts. When i try to, the app force closes each time. I've restarted the app and have tried to verify a contact but still to no avail.
