SpeakForYourself is the premier software augmentative and alternative communication (AAC) application on the market, and now it's on the Google Play market!
Speak for Yourself was designed by two ASHA-certified speech-language pathologists (SLPs) with an extensive knowledge of AAC devices and implementation.
Vocabulary is based on research of the most commonly used words across age, languages, settings, and situations. Eighty percent of the words that we use to communicate are comprised of a core vocabulary of 300-500 words. This means that approximately only twenty percent of a person's vocabulary is "personalized." One hundred and twenty of these core words constitute the main screen of Speak for Yourself. Each of these buttons links to additional related core vocabulary words and personalized, programmable vocabulary.
Features of Speak for Yourself:
Open and close - You can decide which words are appropriate for a given user, from 1 to almost 14,400.
Consistent Interface - The interface looks and operates the same for every screen to increase familiarity so that an individual's rate of speech can improve.
Babble - If enabled, allows the user to "peek under the covers" and see all the words that could be used.
Locks - In addition to controlling the available words, the teacher can control what functions are available to a student at a given time.
Edit and add words - Many of the existing words can be changed, and new words can be added easily.
No duplication - Words may only be entered once. This supports and encourages muscle memory to get to a word.
Find - Not sure if a word exists or where it is? Find can show you the keystrokes necessary to get to a word.
We're very excited to introduce the world to the future of AAC with the release of SpeakForYourself and invite you to join us in our mission to change the world...one voice at a time.
SpeakForYourself uses a library of almost 11000 Smarty Symbols®.
