An unofficial application for the popular website

Coursera Companion is an unofficial app for users of the popular academic website of free courses.

This app will help you organize yourself and the courses you're taking. Access a personal dashboard and take a look at the enrolled courses. From there, you will be able to watch streaming video lectures, check out materials, take quizzes and learn it all about your courses.

The design is simple but works well and has a great usability.

Rafique Anwar is the developer of Coursera Companion, which is not official but works well enough and it's extremely helpful for students who want to have a quicker access whenever they're not at home. As a disadvantage, the ads are sometimes annoying.

FAQ:

Q: I don't see any open courses?
A: That's probably because you aren't enrolled to one. Browse the course catalog to find and enroll to a course.

Q: My course just started but I can't see course materials from the app?
A: Try force refresh option on top of your open courses.

Q: I can't see this week's lectures from the app thought it's available on the website?
A: Try force refresh option on top of the course lectures.

Q: Why can't I play lecture videos?
A:The Coursera lecture videos are not optimized for mobile devices, they are suitable for tablets or larger display devices. Some older devices of few known OEMs lack the video codecs required to play these videos and the builtin player may not be able to play these videos. If this the case, you may want to try one of these external video players:
MX Player: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.mxtech.videoplayer.ad
VLC Player: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=org.videolan.vlc.betav7neon

Q: Is there a paid version that I can purchase?
A: No, there is no other paid version of the app currently available nor planned. The free version is designed to be feature complete. However, if you prefer you can purchase optional features (such as removing ads from builtin video player) with in-app purchase.

Q: Can I do "XXX feature" from the app like the main site?
A: If the feature is not listed above, the answer is probably NO. Coursera Companion is conceived to be a true companion but not a replacement of the Coursera(TM) main site. As much as we want to provide most features as you would like to have, being an unofficial app there are harsh technical limits as to where we can reach. But do post your feedback or suggestion at app-dev@rafique.me and we'll try our best.

Q: I would rather like an official app.
A: So do I but then again I wouldn't have wrote this app if there was one.

has been fine until the latest update; the app hangs, becomes unresponsive, and is needed forced closing whenever it tries to sync with the subjects.

Pretty good app. Thing I'm missing most is custom playback speed

    Love it

Force closes whenever I open a course, rendering the app useless. Used to be good.

Makes it easy to view current and past course lectures. The ads are relatively unobtrusive and paying a few bucks to remove them via an in-app purchase is reasonable.
