"Story Time, Free"

Reviewed by / Feb 24, 2015

A collection of free children's stories and a reader, with audio book capabilities.

iStoryBooks has a good collection of free books. The reader is nice enough - it features a 'read to me' mode, which reads the words aloud, although the page turning isn't all that smooth. The book downloads are a little slow too.

The 'read to me' function is great - it's a proper reading, rather than text to speech. Each page features a picture at the top, all of which are well illustrated. This app is a great entertainment provider for young children.

The page turning - done by sliding left or right - isn't very smooth at all, something I found quite annoying, but it may not bother a small child. The book downloads seemed quite slow as well - slower than they should be.

If you are concerned for your child holding a cell tower on their lap you definitely disabled the wireless on their tablet by now. This app would not work without continuously wanting to go out on the net. What is the actual reason for that when I downloaded the library and the stories before? Why when downloading a story you cannot actually download it in full and only when going through the page

I think that as it is being read to you it should have the words highlighted, so the children that don't know how to read know where they are.

Didnt feel these stories were at all appropriate for a 2.5yo, especially at bed time. We read through about 10 and only one had a message without death or tragedy in it that was appropriate for him but the pictures in it werent enough to keep his attention.

Really good app, just wish it was more interactive, for instance, kids could click character s & objects to make sounds
