THE VERDICT

Mango Languages for both the iOS and Android platforms sounds like a tasty app, but behind the delicious sounding name is a free application that gives you access to over 60 language courses, including Biblical languages, like Biblical Hebrew and Koine Greek for the dedicated theologian. You’ll find conversational audio and vocabulary exercises, and even cultural phrases like the Spanish, “Al mal tiempo, buena cara,” which even I didn’t know meant the same as “When the going gets tough, the tough get going.” For the non-native English speaker, Mango Languages provides English courses for Latin-American speakers, Chinese speakers, and others.

THE PROS

Mango Languages looks stunning and runs quite smoothly on almost any device. If your local library provides free access to Mango, all you need to do is register with your library card number. The new Auto-play feature continues your language course without interaction needed by the user.

THE CONS

In order to fully use Mango Languages, you need to have an American library card, leaving non-US users with only the first lesson available to try out.
