A pertinent test for intelligence.
An intelligence quotient is a score derived from a standardized test designed to assess intelligence. The abbreviation "IQ" comes from the German term Intelligenz-Quotient. The mean (average) score within an age group is set to 100 and the standard deviation (SD) almost always to 15, thus, approximately 95% of the population scores within two standard deviations of the mean (has an IQ between 70 and 130.)
IQ scores have been shown to be associated with such factors as mortality, social status, biological parental IQ.
IQ scores are used as predictors of educational achievement, special needs, job performance, income, and are used to study IQ distributions in populations.
Well-constructed IQ tests are generally accepted as an accurate measure of intelligence by the scientific community.
