About Birds of Prey
The team has been relaunched in the new 52 with Birds of Prey #1. Black Canary is now team leader, and has brought in newcomer Starling. Barbara Gordon (formerly Oracle, now the current Batgirl) initially declined Dinah's offer to join, is now a member of the team (as of #4) . Katana accepted Black Canary's offer to join the team after her husband urged her to, telling her it was important for their collective destinies. Canary then invited the usually villainous Poison Ivy, much to the consternation of Starling and Katana, who expressed their displeasure with the new recruit by attacking Ivy on first sight. Ivy easily fended off their attacks and is now on the roster, though it remains to be seen how well she will fit in with the team. Together they are trying to stop a villain with the codename "Choke" and soldiers with invisible suits called "Cleaners". The Birds of prey will soon be battling the Court of Owls alongside the rest of the Bat-family in the Night Of The Owls event.
Originally the Birds of Prey consisted only of Black Canary and Oracle. The personalities of the two women clashed at times, but after they met face to face they became very close friends. Some time later Black Canary walked into a trap and Oracle was forced to call in the Huntress. After a successful outcome to this event, the trio formed the core of the Birds of Prey. The group operated out of the Clocktower in Gotham for a time before a move to Metropolis and later Platinum Flatts. With the apparent death of Batman, Oracle disbanded the team for a short time, but ultimately reassembled the team with new members Hawk and Dove, setting up base within Gotham's newly built Kord Tower.
For DC's New 52, Black Canary is getting a team together and has assembled her college friend Ev Crawford, Katana, Poison Ivy, and Barbara Gordon as Batgirl. They have yet to set up a base of operations.
