The Black Country has one of the most distinct accents in the UK. Less than 50 years ago towns and villages would possess their own distinctive language nuances but over time many of these individual phonetics have merged into the general regional accent.
Championed by locals, the dialect remains perhaps one of the last examples of early English which is still in use today. Using modern technology, Our We Spake Black Country, offers you some familiar, and not-so-familiar phrases with interpretations and sound bites from genuine ‘locals’.
