Priyanka Chopra was born on 18 July 1982, in Jamshedpur, India to Ashok Chopra and Madhu Chopra, both physicians in the Indian Army. Her brother Siddharth is seven years younger, and the actress Parineeti Chopra is her cousin. Because of her parents' occupations, Chopra's family frequently relocated to various Indian cities, including Jamshedpur, Delhi, Pune, Lucknow, Bareilly, Ladakh, Chandigarh and Ambala, during her childhood. In an interview with Daily News and Analysis, Chopra said that she did not mind travelling regularly and changing schools; she welcomed it as a new experience and a way to discover India's multicultural society. She considers Bareilly as her home town and maintains strong connections there. Chopra studied at La Martiniere Girls' School in Lucknow and at St. Maria Goretti College in Bareilly. When she was 13 she moved to the US where she attended schools in Newton, Massachusetts and Cedar Rapids, Iowa, where she found the difference in cultures between India and the US shocking.
