Shankar-Ehsaan-Loy (S-E-L) is a musical trio consisting of Shankar Mahadevan, Ehsan Noorani and Loy Mendonsa. They represent the first 'trio' of music composers to entertain Bollywood audiences with their chart-topping music. "Dil Chahta Hai" perched them atop the rest and "Kal Ho Na Ho" fetched them a National award. Some of their famous works includes scores for movies such as Mission Kashmir (2000), Bunty Aur Babli (2005) , Taare Zameen Par (2007) and Rock on!! (2008).
When Loy moved to Mumbai, he hooked up with Ehsaan and they started working together on jingles. Shankar used to sing for their jingles (Indian parts). A film-maker, late Mukul Anand, got the 3 together for his magnum opus 'Dus'. The track "Hindustani" struck a chord, ripped through the charts and turned into an overnight anthem. Shankar-Ehsaan-Loy, the band, was born.
