Explore Matisse’s working process with this multimedia app from the Statens Museum for Kunst.
Throughout his life the French artist Henri Matisse (1869-1954) experimented with repeating his motif. From one canvas to the next he would change the colours, adjust his technique, zoom in and reduce shapes. This app gives you background about the artworks and you hear what Matisse himself said about his art. You can also zoom in and discover the details of the artworks and investigate the extra material.
The app is developed for the exhibition Matisse – Doubles and Variations, which is organized by the National Gallery of Denmark, in collaboration with the Centre Pompidou, Paris, and the Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York. All the artworks in this app are shown in the exhibition. If you visit you can use the app as a gallery guide, but also enjoy it before and after the visit. If you are unable to visit the exhibition the app can be your personal Matisse universe for you to enjoy again and again.
