"You are being chased, don't you hear them groan?"

An awesome and extremely original workout app

All who know me know that I'm a frustrated Z-film scriptwriter who channels his Z-frustration fiercely criticizing those Z-films he doesn't like and singing the praises of those which are worse but he likes better. By the way, I write now and then about z-stuff, to the point of wasting two AndroidZoom articles in it a time ago (here and there)

Of course, I have an AppsZoom alert with the word "zombie" written in caps, so every time a new z-whatever app is born I get an email at the end of the week with it. That's how I find Zombies, Run! And that's how I was scared when I saw it's sold for 7,50$. In addition, workout and me fell out months ago, so if zombiemaggedon were going to be tomorrow, I'd be considered slightly more than zombie breakfast.

However, I have always liked to have the role of the survivor who not only saves his life, but also helps other survivors and, thanks to the united skills of all the team -leaded by moi- create an oasis of life in the midst of an undead sea. By the way, the blonde amazon would fall in love with me and...well, you know the film. If not, ask Romero.

Zombies, Run is worth its price only if you need motivation. If you are an innate jogger (oxymoron) you won't need this app, save your bucks for your next trainers instead. Howsoever, if you want to run but your favorite sentence is "joggin' for jogging's sake is nonsense" here's your app. It doesn't matter if you are a man or a woman, the only required condition is that you are alive and are willing to continue that way.

Zombies, Run! comes with 30 workout routines, each one in the form of a mission. As you jog, you receive orders and listen to events happening around you. You get virtual items (as in a geocatching game) and, once you get home, you can spend them to improve your base. By "items" we also mean survivors or stuff. You can play your own music or choose it from some given tracks.

I don't know if the price and zombie combo are incentive enough to stop putting off your eternal New Year resolution. I love it, and I'd like there were more missions, because I don't know if I will continue jogging once I save mankind. Fortunately, missions are replayable. I'd also like that it wasn't an absolute battery drainer, but that's endemic of GPS based apps (in the end, if you were to go out into a z-infected city, you will make sure your device runs full of battery, won't you?). Don't forget your headphones and thank the developer when you win the next neighborhood race.

Join 1,000,000+ runners in an epic adventure!

You tie your shoes, put on your headphones, take your first steps outside. You’ve barely covered 100 yards when you hear them. They must be close. You can hear every guttural breath, every rattling groan - they’re everywhere. Zombies. There’s only one thing you can do: Run!

Zombies, Run! is an ultra-immersive running game and audio adventure, co-created with award-winning novelist Naomi Alderman. We deliver the story straight to your headphones through orders and voice recordings - and when you get back home, you use the supplies you’ve collected while running to build and grow your base.

BBC NEWS - “The only way to save yourself is to run for real.”
WIRED - “In the style of Runkeeper, with an exciting undead twist.”
LIFEHACKER - “A really cool way to get outside and exercise.”
CNN - “Turns exercise into a game - a terrifying, terrifying game.”
NPR - "It gets you moving!"
TIME.COM - "Takes all the fun of a zombie game and funnels it into a fitness app."

Zombies, Run! works anywhere and at any speed. You can jog in a park, run along a beach, or walk along a trail.

Hundreds of lives are counting on you. You've got to rebuild your base from a few shivering survivors into a fortified beacon of civilization by collecting critical supplies and avoiding roving zombie hordes. Can you save them and learn the truth about the zombie apocalypse?

You become the hero in an epic story of humanity’s struggle for survival where your running *really* matters - and there’s a deeper mystery to be uncovered as well... This app includes all 33 missions from Season 1 as well as the first 7 missions from Season 2; and there'll be a further 120+ missions released weekly and available for purchase!

Choose your own custom playlists before you start running: the story unfolds in between your tracks through a series of dynamic radio messages and voice recordings.

With our optional ‘Zombie Chases’ mode, you’ll need to increase your speed and work up a sweat if you hear zombies on your tail. That’s right - we’ve made interval training *fun*!

View your running and game progress in detail through comprehensive stats and graphs - all for free!

Register with our free ZombieLink service to view and share your runs online, complete with maps and full run history. Plus you can sync your runs with Runkeeper, export them as GPX files, and share them with friends!

You automatically collect items like medicine, batteries, and ammo while running - but when you're back home, who needs them more: the soldiers or the doctors? Which buildings need extra defenses? It’s up to you.

- Requires Android 4.0 or above
- Continued use of GPS running in the background can dramatically decrease battery life.

This app/game is pretty awesome and innovative! The story really draws you in and distracts you from the running. It makes you want to keep running to finish each mission. You can choose to make your runs/missions either 30 min or an hour. The story and dialogue takes place for a few minutes after each of your songs in your playlist finishes. Its only getting four stars right now because it gives

Completly worth the money. Just started and everything so far is working great. Definitely going to use this Everytime I work out. It made my normal run seem to go by so much quicker and the story is very effective in keeping you going. Highly recommended for anyone who needs a pick me up or just looking for a general way to start exercising.

Would be a great addition to the "constant speed" mode if you could set interval training speeds to work with zombie chases e.g. Constant speed at 6km/h then speed to 11km/h on zombie chases!
