"Keep an eye at your heart"

Reviewed by / Jul 19, 2011

Instant Heart Rate Pro is an app that turns our Android into a heart rate monitor to measure our pulse.

It doesn’t need any external hardware since it uses the camera lens (and our finger) to gather the data. It’s as easy as it sounds. Once you’ve installed Instant Heart Rate in your Android device, you just need to put your finger on the camera lens to get your heart rate. If you want to share your rate you can do it easily because Instant Heart Rate integrates your sharing channels (Gmail, Facebook, Twitter, SMS...). This is what free version performs, now let's zoom in the paid version ($2.99) features:

You can monitor your heart rate history and track your progresses. Some graphs will help you out to see at a glance the changes. Moreover, you may create different profiles (running, chilling, partying...) to set our “normal” heart rate in each situation and to monitor it in order to check if everything is going good.

Instant Heart Rate has been developed by Azumio Inc. a mobile developing startup focused on health apps. It has reached remarkable success thanks to Instant Heart Rate.

We recommend you to download this app if you have never tried one of this kind. But it has to be said that it's just more of the same. The free version is poor: you can only measure and share the results, but not track your history.

I was skeptical- being a nurse I thought yah right! So I tried it at work with a monitor. It worked! Very very happy!

Place the tip of your index finger on phone’s camera and in a couple of seconds your Heart Rate will be shown.
A real-time chart will show your every heart beat.

It uses your phones built-in camera to track color changes on the fingertip that are directly linked to your pulse. This is the same technique that medical pulse oximeters use.

Now you have a chance to track your fitness and health every-time with just your phone.
Your resting heart rate gives you a view into your hearts fitness. The fitter you get the lower your heart rate will be.

Enables:
✓ Heart rate measurements
✓ Real time PPG graph - see your every heart beat
✓ History

NOTE: Works best on devices with flash. On other devices it has to be used with good lighting.

Compared results over period of time with my Omron BP & HR monitor and they are always similar. Therefore this app can be trusted. Very practical if you need to keep an eye on your HR like I do. Definitely recommended.

Works great. measures accurately takes a little practice to place finger properly for repeatability.

I love this app and have been very pleased with its simplicity... I do have one problem, I linked it to Google fit and in Google fit the heart rates don't show up, I'm not sure if it is a problem with this app or Google :/
