Slow breathing exercises to lower stress and increase general well-being

I don't know much regarding New Age hoodoo (nor that voodoo that you do), but I do know I'm a big fan of breathing. Saagara's Pranayama app purports to take this oxygen addiction of mine to the next level with graduated, meditative breathing exercises.

The app is actually pretty cool - select your desired pace of breathing (from slow to slower to slowest), and the timer will count down six minutes of guidance. Inhale and exhale based on the rotating circle, or simply listen to the shifts in the musical tones and breathe along with them. The aural cues mean you can easily close your eyes and meditate while following the slow breathing patterns.

I tried this in the office immediately after downing a shot of espresso (good morning!), and, shockingly, it actually seemed to work. I felt myself growing more aware of my heartbeat and simply focusing in general. I don't know if it was because I normally breathe like a hummingbird or if it can be attributed to the soothing effects of the chanting, but I liked it (would breathe again).

The free version of the app only includes the "Beginner" setting. You'll have to pony up for the more hardcore modes.

Saagara's Pranayama takes respiration to a whole new level.

Pranayama was engineered to teach your body how to breathe properly. Babies naturally breathe diaphragmatically, however adults often take shallow breaths. By training your lungs to breathe at their full capacity, you could experience a whole ton of health benefits!

Practicing slow breathing for only 15 minutes a day can reduce stress and stress-related illnesses. Universal Breathing - Pranayama was created by doctors, designers and app developers to provide the perfect breathing experience. I can't think of anything that I would change about this app. I absolutely love it!

Thanks for a great app. It is very nice that I am able to set up my own timing. It would be even better for me, if it would continue the volume after switching to another app. As it is now, the moment I leave the app it pauses itself.

I used to use this app a lot. The audio has never improved from the crackly, low quality, and now it doesn't even function on my Xperia M2. Would gladly return to 4 stars if it would function.

There is no option to use the app with screen off. The developer made very similar app with the screen off option and wants us to spend another £ 3 on his new app instead of supporting this one. Very disappointed:-(

Don't know what to say it would be perfect with background audio. Update: Just subtracted a bunch of stars. After supporting this app for years, I have no more patience for the developer. You didn't give us background audio, you gave is a wake lock so our screen will never shut off, it will overheat, damage the display and drain the battery. Jerks!
