QR codes are ugly! This app recognises a different marker scheme that allows us to create aesthetically pleasing, even beautiful, codes. These codes are designed and can be made part of the patterns and designs we see on everyday objects in our lives. For more details search for and visit our aestheticodes website, or come see us in Busaba Eathai Old Street restaurant during the London Design Festival 2012!

Developed in collaboration between Horizon Digital Economy Research at the University of Nottingham, Central St Martin's College of Arts, and Brunel University.

How to use this application:
Install this application and click samples options in the application. This will take you to our website which contains markers which are designed by the professional artists. Print these markers and point your mobile to them. It will recognise these markers and will take you to our project website.

I love the idea, but the app is definitely not ready for prime time, although it does work on my Droid Maxx. I hope they continue to work on this. I'd love to see it out in the wild, as it were.

For me, on droid bionic, it loads with a black screen and two buttons on the bottom. The buttons don't do anything. The app stays like that for a few minutes then crashes.

Was looking forward to trying this out after watching the Computerphile video, but am disappointed to see it doesn't work on the Nexus 5.

The app is not recognizing most of the codes on their site itself. Forget about the hand drawn ones. The concept itself is too limited that I feel it need to be changed from the base itself.
