The effect on the brainwaves depends on the difference in frequencies of each beat. For example, if 200 Hz was played in one ear and 210 in the other, then the frequency of 10 HZ is the binaural beat.

The difference between the two frequencies must be less than or equal to 30 Hz for the effect to occur; if not, the two beats will be heard separately and no beat will be perceived.
