"Smartify your diary"

Reviewed by / Aug 09, 2013

Day Journal is a note-taking and full-featured personal diary app

This is a catch-all helpful app: there's no a specific target since everyone needs to take notes about stuff, no matter if it's about grocery, sales, matches schedules and results or school assignment progress. Day Journal is a simple app that allows you to create text entries, attach images and voice clips to them, set date and time, set a mood, location and weather conditions. All of this in a single entry.

Of course, entries can be categorized: you can use the preset categories (personal, family, work) or add as many as you want from settings. Categories makes easier for users to find specific entries about their different daily activities. Thus, if you are, for example, a football fan who uses to watch matches in the TV or at the stadium, you can recall things that happened in the match if you wrote them down in your Day Journal app. One of the strongest points of this app is that it helps you remember even details such as weather, exact time and location (if you previously inputted it).

When it comes to personal diaries, one of the most feared situations is losing it. However, Day Journal allows you to backup all your entries, export data in different formats (CSV, HTML, TEXT,...) and share via e-mail, SMS or any of the supported app installed on your device. You can even post entries in Facebook (it just copies text to clipboard). The second concern with diaries is privacy: no worries, Day Journal allows you to protect your diary with a password and keep it away from the gossip.

Day Journal is a helpful app set in a minimalist, sober yet intuitive layout that certainly makes navigation easier. Just the needed info in each entry, not too overload it and get the users bored. The rest is up to you: keep adding entries and you'll become more efficient.

It doesn't allow you to try the features which are listed in the preinstalled entry. It asks you to upgrade to add any content. If you cant use it then its a pointless advert/bloatware.

I researched a few diary apps before I settled on this one. The interface is fairly intuitive. I like the fact that location, time, and weather are all saved automatically. Adding photos is relatively straightforward. My tablet goes to sleep automatically when I close the cover and I lost several quite long diary entries until I realized they are not automatically saved. This is a major drawback i

Most features are disabled in this demo. You can't even try adding a picture or audio file. What is that all about? After only a minute or two it asked if I wanted to buy it and then shut down. Why would you buy something you can't try first? Avoiding this one like the plaque.

Personally found the UX to be too clunky. Features were there but not initiative for Android, particularly the tagging and folders. Much prefer Diaro.

I thought this was Day One journal like the one I have on ios. When I installed it I couldn't find the import/export sync options for Dropbox or drive. So I bought the pro version thinking it would be there. Turns out it doesn't exist because this is a different app with a similar icon and similar name. I didn't figure this out until I found the import app available for day one. Oh well maybe once

I use this app daily to log work activities for scrum as well as personal notes. I love the location and weather features as well as the ability to tag and categorize entries. Great app.
