Learn to control the stress that contributes to depression

Bummed out beyond belief? There's an app for that. Excel At Life's Depression CBT Self-Help Guide contains approximately a zillion tools to help you out of your depression, or at least to understand it better.

The app includes a screening test plus graph to check the severity of your mood swings, many articles regarding clinical depression and cognitive-behavior therapy (CBT), loads of suggestions to help you motivate yourself, Depression Assistance Audio to help you better understand the condition, and a Cognitive Thought Diary for challenging stressful thinking.

Unfortunately, the design of the app is highly disorganized, and plenty of it downright ugly. The chipper pink and purple scheme does nothing to help out someone already down on themselves, and it's difficult to use to boot.

Excel At Life's Depression CBT Self-Help Guide is a nice idea, but needs to be put in a more attractive shell in order to be truly useful.

This app contains a depression severity test, audios, articles, a cognitive diary, and a motivational points system that help you learn how to do this.

Reason for permissions:
1) READ PHONE STATE AND IDENTITY--necessary when listening to audios to pause playback when phone call is received (Excel At Life never accesses identity)
2) MODIFY DELETE SD CARD CONTENTS--necessary to allow saving data to SD card
3) FULL INTERNET ACCESS AND VIEW NETWORK STATE--necessary to determine if internet access is available when linking to articles and audios

    Once you get used to the interface the points system really encourages you to read through the affirmative articles, use the CBT diary and listen to the audio recordings. Much better listening to someone's voice from my portable phone than using my obnoxious laptop.

    Even if you aren't exactly depressed, I highly recommend this app it will help improve your quality of life! At first I couldn't figure out how to use it & uninstalled it, but when I decided to try it again & spent a little more time with the app I realized how valuable it is. Thanks for creating this and making it free!

    This app is so awesome for people who need CBT. I took a class at my local community services board and this app is so incredibly like the class! I absolutely love it! I am currently waiting to see a new therapist and can not wait to share this app with her and to see how much it can help me with therapy and also on my own.
