The Muslim Community Radio (2MFM) is a multicultural and multilingual Islamic radio station. It broadcasts to the Sydney Muslim community in general, while remaining sensitive to the wider Australian community. It first transmitted in 1995, twenty-four hours a day during the month of Ramadan and Dhul-hijja (Pilgrimage month) under a Temporary Broadcast Community License. In 2001, 2MFM was granted a permanent license by the then Australian Broadcasting Authority (the ACMA), based on merit. Since August 2001, the Muslim Community Radio 2MFM has been broadcasting 24 hours 365 days a year covering all Islamic events. In addition to its two main languages, Arabic and English, 2MFM also broadcasts programs and chants in Urdu, Somali, African, Lebanese, Harari, Bengali, Indonesian, Afghani among others.
