    Press (RSS Reader)'s review

Press is a RSS client set in an elegant minimalist interface

    7
    • Feedly, Feedbin, Feed Wrangler sync
    • Smooth navigation
    • Ease of use
    • Sober, minimalist

    "Simple and elegant"

Google Reader shut down, that's a fact. That doesn't mean RSS subscription service is dead. On the contrary, RSS subscribers are one of the most active community on the Internet (now one of the angriest with Google). However, other services developed their own RSS subscription system (Feedly, Feedbin, Feed Wrangler... and many other). This means that good RSS client readers like Press can keep on, offering an excellent way to read and save interesting articles and media.

Thus, Press supports sync with the service named above. In addition, it is fully integrated with Readability (actually, its design is quite similar to that app). Unlike other readers like Feedly that highlights articles, Press offers a magazine-shelf layout that gives more importance to sources. Thus, you won't see at first sight articles but sources in each category. Thus, you can enter those sources one by one and read the articles, as it were a e-mail inbox.

After clicking on the articles they'll be marked as "read", and the unread counter will go down in the home's sidebar, where all your categories are listed. This layout allows users to easily access the article and see how many articles are still to be read. However, it's sober and minimalist: no dark/light themes or flipping effects when swiping. Just the basic stuff to guarantee users' free will and fast navigation.

It contains adjustable widgets and lockscreen support for 4.2+

Poor integration of out dated mobilizers. Avoid at all costs. Not good for reading.

I have really enjoyed this app in the past. Unfortunately, the app hasn't been updated in almost 2 years and one of the main features I used it for (Readablity integration) is now broken. If they updated it and moved to using something like Mercury instead of Readability, it would go back to be stellar, but in the mean time I'll have to look for an alternative.

Beware: this is an abandoned app. All of the most recent reviews should make this clear to you. Unfortunately, what used to be a great RSS reader for a long time is now showing serious signs of deterioration due to neglect. Some of the most useful core features like readability integration are now broken as the service has been closed. I'd have gladly paid more for the app if it meant there would still be a team of people today to work on it. I guess I'll have to go back to feedly's native client until I find something better.

Last update is almost 3 years ago. My top favourite reader was left behind. The readability feature is not working. This is SAD!

Now that readability has shut down and the integration is broken I regret paying for this app. It is clear that the developers have no intention of updating this app even though switching tbe readability service would be an easy fix. Now that this app no longer does what I need it to do I'll have to look elsewhere, but my money is gone for good.
