"Content discovery"

Reviewed by / Feb 20, 2013

MATERIAL is a reader app that makes easier discovering interesting content

There's an overwhelming logic concerning social content discovery: people you follow are people you are interested in. What people you care of share content, in most of cases that content should somehow interest you, isn't it? That applies to any content: video, pictures, apps, cars or sports. That's what Material does quite successfully with news and articles.

It works with what you like to delivers you news, blogs and articles exclusively on your interests. The topics in each Edition are unique to you and it changes as your interest and interactions change too. It isn't a RSS subscription reader. In other words, the goal isn't to read articles from the same sources day after day: this is a content discovery app. It delivers content from sources otherwise you've probably never come across.

It takes such recommendation info from what you like and who you follow, basically from your Facebook and Twitter account. In addition, those topics that you like as you go, will be added to your Editions, or related content. Editions are delivered twice a day: each new Edition will better fit you since it learns from you.

Design: cute and neat. Smooth when switching from menus. Well-designed minimalist layout that can compete with other "content discovery" apps like Flipboard or Taptu or Pulse. Recommended.
