Podcast discovery at it's finest from a neat, multi-platform app

You know there are a heap of great podcasts out there just waiting for your ears: but with so many to go out, discovering great new ones isn't always that easy. That's where Player FM earns its stripes, helping guide you to the best podcasts out there right now, based on much more narrow and niche topics than your average podcaster.

As well as content tailored to your tastes, this well-designed and sleek little app also features cloud syncing, plus you can launch podcasts right from your Android Wear watch. The app promises to stay free for forever, without ads, and you can also you can upgrade to the Gold plan, launching later this year, for extra goodies including sync of play position and history.

Player FM differentiates itself from the rest of the pack with its heavy focus on podcast discovery. rather than serach by broad topics like "Tech", searches can be narrowed down to "Android", "Gaming", "Programming", and even specifics like "Iron man 3".

Like any good podcast app, the service saves your subscriptions in the cloud so you can get them on other devices, gives you the option to stream podcasts from the web or download them and listen to them locally, lets you choose whether to download at any time or only over Wi-Fi, and features show notes and links for each episode. It also boasts a homescreen and lock screen widget.

It's quite heavy, so make sure you download on Wi-Fi. Some users have reported crashing and lagging, but it worked just dandy for us.

Like Spotify or YouTube, your subscriptions sync in the cloud so you can setup once for life and use the app on multiple devices. The cloud model also saves you bandwidth and battery by fetching feeds in the server instead of checking every publisher's server for updates.

Get fresh recommendations on your favorite topics, ready for immediate streaming or download. Our catalogue goes deep, with 500+ niche topics to follow. Not just "Tech", but "Android", "Gaming", "Programming", etc. Follow your favorite TV show, sport, industry, etc.

Subscriptions and Play Later lists proactively downloaded for offline use, with auto-cleanup. All highly configurable.

Browse shownotes for all episodes in the publisher's feed and immediately stream any episode or save it for later even if you're not subscribed. You can even search full shownotes for over 3 million episodes.

Resume where you left off, mark played, browse your history.

Your subscriptions import and export as OPML in case you ever want to move to another app #sadface.

Chromecast, Android Wear, voice activation ("OK Google search for Android on Player FM"), Samsung Gear S notifications, enhanced sound on Dolby® Digital Plus™ compatible devices, LG Quick Circle™, Music Boss integration on Android Wear, Podlove Subscribe button.

This podcast app is packed with features which I really enjoy but I have a lot of bugs with this software. For instance, it happens to me almost daily that a podcast that shows downloaded won't play because "that download is broken". Another strange issue is it starts playing by itself. On a few different occasions I've watched my phone wake-up from standby and immediately start playing a podcast.

Great looking with a good balance of features and advanced settings. Pleasure to use - love the subtle effects like the pie chart animation as the podcast plays. Clearly designed by people that actually listen to podcasts. Great that its free but would definetly pay for it. For me (based in Australia) the suggested shows were a bit US-focused but thats to be expected as a lot of podcasts are. Keep
