Recently changed in this version:
We are happy to announce we have a listening widget. Finally!
The player and playlist experiences have been streamlined. We've hopefully fixed some of the playlist issues around listening to entire programs and cleaned up some other pesky bugs.
We've also added sponsorship to our story pages. You can learn more about the different kinds of support NPR needs to maintain itself - including corporate sponsors - here: http://www.npr.org/about/support/

I removed this because it continues to run in the background even if I force stop it in the settings. There are no justifications for this unless the app is monitoring and data mining your device for information.

Not a radio replacement. Notifications cause live stream to restart repeatedly.

because I like NPR. Can't make it happen. Zero user control over presentation, for example. Don't is huge on Note II. On a budget? Charge for it. I'd gladly pay. Delivering a lesser quality product is contrary to even minimal expectations for NPR.
