A Haiku Journey is a journal which Matsuo Basho, the most famous poet of the Edo period wrote when he travelled from Fukagawa, Edo through Tochigi prefecture, Tohoku and Hokuriku to Ogaki city in Gifu prefecture with his pupil, Sora for five months from March to September, 1689. The sceneries must have changed from the time of his journey, but there is the same atmosphere as those in Haiku which Basho composed. (Photograph by the landscape photographer Fumio Tomita)
