"This is the new generation of file manager"

Reviewed by: Emmanuel Lund / Sep 26, 2012

Solid Explorer is a file browser that merges good-looking layout, intuitiveness and professional tools

First off, it doesn't need root to work, although rooted devices will have only-root features. It must be said that there are lots of file browser and some of them work pretty good. There's a point in which most of them fail: scenery and ease of use. Solid Explorer has left away that burden to become the new generation of file manager.

It's set in a good-looking ICS-like layout. It has two independent panels for file browsing and you can set it at your whim: for example, you can choose SDcard directory in one panel and your PC's share in the second. What's more, in portrait mode you can see both panels at once and share files and folder from one to the other just by dragging & dropping. In fact, this is an actual mobile native file browser: just swipe, drag and drop to copy, move, delete or create new files and folders. 100% intuitive.

It supports FTP, SFTP and SMB/CIFS clients, file sharing via FTP and it's integrated with Dropbox and Box. We've noticed any file format incompatibility. Of course, it contains a indexed search bar for fast access to your files and file compressor for sharing files easily.

One of the features we liked most is the panel of detailed info of your device. It provides info a graphs of your storage usage in a good-looking layout.

In a few words: one of the best file browser for Android we've reviewed so far. Must have

The recent updates to the app seems to have broken the network browsing via SMB to my Windows network. Consistently getting "cannot browse to 10.90.90.1" when my network has a range of 192.168.x.xx .... Other file explorers happily connecting, but Solid

I'm constantly moving files I've downloaded to folders on my phone and the two pane mode makes this painless. The integration with Google Drive and Dropbox are great, too. The only thing I'd like to see added is support for Copy, as I use it more than tho
