Peripheral Vascular Disease
Peripheral Vascular Disease refers to the obstruction of large arteries, but not within the coronary, aortic arch vasculature, or brain. Peripheral Vascular Disease or PVD causes either acute or chronic ischemia - lack of blood supply. These blockages restrict the blood flow circulation, mainly in arteries leading to the kidneys, stomach, arms, legs and feet. PVD comprises diseases of both peripheral arteries and peripheral veins. PVD is sometimes incorrectly used as a synonym for peripheral artery disease or PAD.
