Digital Witness (TM)

From time to time we all find ourselves in situations where we feel unsafe or under threat.
Random assaults, kidnappings, rapes and even the occasional murder make headline news on an all too regular basis.
Personal security for themselves and for loved ones has become an issue of concern for just about everyone in today's world.
The perpetrators of such crimes are often emboldened by the belief that can get away with their violent actions, unidentified and unpunished. Even survivors of violent attacks are often too traumatised by their experience to clearly identify their attackers.
Digital Witness is a personal security app. It exploits the popularity and technology of smartphones to enhance personal safety and security.
Ideally as a deterrent. Potential perpetrators may in may cases by deterred from committing an act of violence if they know that they will be identified, caught and punished.
In the worse case scenario, where some one does become a victim, Digital Witness will provide immediate notification to loved ones and authorities that they are under threat, as well as photographic evidence of their attacker and location.
How does it work?
You install Digital Witness on your iPhone or Android Smart phone after downloading from the relevant app store just like any other app.
To work effectively, Digital Witness requires mobile data and location services to be active on you phone.
When you find yourself in any situation where you feel you may be at risk, activate the Digital Witness app.
If anyone approaches with the intent of doing you harm, point the camera of your smartphone at the and press the "Help" button displayed by Digital Witness.
In the case of Android Smartphones, pressing the volume control button on your phone provides a fast way of taking the photo. Note: When Digital Witness is activated on an Android Phone, the volume control button will act as an alternative "hardware" help button.
When a photo has been taken, Digital Witness will immediately notify the persons you have set up as your security contacts on the "Settings" screen of Digital Witness. Up to three contacts may be set up as security contacts.
Your security contacts will immediately receive an SMS message clearly identified as a Digital Witness alert. The message will contain a link showing your location on Google Maps and a link showing the photograph you have taken with Digital Witness.
Your security contact(s) then have the options of calling you to check that you are OK, viewing the photo and determining that you are indeed at risk and calling police on your behalf and providing them with your location for a rapid response.
The photo is saved if required for later identification of the perpetrator.
