"The weird keyboard"

Reviewed by: Emmanuel Lund / Apr 17, 2012

ETAOI Keyboard is an original way to input based on ETAOI (internationally most used letters)

First off, we want you to know that this isn't an easy keyboard to handle, at least not in the beginning. Actually, it requires power of will, otherwise you'll drop it in the middle of the learning curve. Those who achieved it say that it's a really fast-typing keyboard. I guess I'm a conservative in this regard, but I'll stay on QWERTY.

Anyway, it's always nice discovering new keyboards with original input system. ETAOI Keyboard is made up by just 5 colored keys. Its original input system allows you to input letters, numbers, punctuation and even emojis by sliding right/left, up/down. No one can discuss that this is a native mobile keyboard. The only catch lies on most of the users are use to QWERTY or similar keyboards and are reluctant to change. This is for the bravest.

There's both a free demo version (with some punctuation and other perfomance restriction) and a paid one ($1.99). Although we encourage everyone to give it a go and accept the challenge, we cannot rate it as well as others because it doesn't makes users' life easier, not in the beginning at least. And that's matters. What's more, screentouch response should be enhanced, we had some mistypings.

I like that Etaoi takes up such little space on my 7" Samsung tablet. The five, visually different touch tiles make it easy to mentally group which letters are on them (they are printed there, of course, but when you get going, you can sort of judge by co

but the demo is pretty limited with punctuation. Would like a full version with a limited time vs. limited version with unlimited time.
