Norton Halt is a first responder app specifically designed for your Android smartphone and tablets that alerts you about the latest, breaking security exploits, including the Master Key Android exploit, Obad, an advanced Trojan that hijacks existing apps, plus the lock screen bypass bug, and USSD code attacks. Vulnerabilities like these threaten your privacy and can allow attackers to bypass system permissions, gain access to RAM, inject malicious code, install unauthorized apps, and steal your personal data.

Obad is the latest threat to Android smartphone security. It is malware that stealthily injects malicious code into existing apps on your device, which can extend an app’s permissions and steal your personal information, usually sending the data via SMS.

The USSD codes exploit has the potential to initiate a complete wipe of data on your phone and SIM card. Smartphones and tablets running anything below Android 4.1.x (Jelly Bean) are vulnerable.

• Scan for potential Android OS security risks and exploits
• Detect Master Key vulnerability and the Obad Trojan virus
• Prevent multiple lock screen bypass exploits
• Detect Exynos 4 exploit and USSD code attacks
• Block unauthorized USSD code requests
• Stop the dialer from executing USSD codes without your permission
• Prevent loss of personal data and financial information
• Advanced USSD filtering, including string detection and special characters. (Many competing USSD apps can't do both.)

Norton Halt scans and alerts you of Android Master Key vulnerability. Master Key malware hijacks installed apps, turning them into malicious Trojans that can read your emails, SMS and documents, access stored passwords and use the device itself to make and record arbitrary phone calls, send SMS messages, and use the device’s camera. Infected devices can be used to steal user data or to create a mobile botnet.
All Android devices with Android 1.6 and beyond are susceptible to these attacks.

Norton Halt protects against multiple types of lock screen bypass exploits. The first exploit may grant full access to your device by disabling the PIN/password/pattern challenge feature. Once disabled, the challenge screen will not come back unless the smartphone is rebooted. This exploit primarily affects Galaxy S3, Galaxy S3 Mini, and Galaxy Note II smartphones. The second type of lock screen exploit may grant momentary access to the home screen or any application running in the foreground from the emergency dialer or the emergency contacts screen when your device is locked. This exploit primarily affects Samsung Galaxy S2's, S3's and Note 2 smartphones.

USSD stands for Unstructured Supplementary Service Data and is a session based GSM protocol unlike SMS or MMS. Typically, it is used to send messages between a mobile phone and an application server in the network. There are multiple services based on USSD such as: mobile banking, social networking (Facebook, Twitter), over-the-air mobile software updates, and prepaid/recharge accounts.

What can I say? I really like it. I trust the company this app's from. The only thing I wonder is why didn't they just simply make this app part of Norton Mobile Security?

This app had been working great till recently it has stopped functioning properly. I have a Galaxy S4 running on Android version 4.4.2 and now I'm unable to set it as a default. I have already attempted a reinstall with no result. However, it is still able to scan, hence my two star deduction.
