SMS Popup provides a convenient pop-up dialog when a message is received and allows you to reply quickly.
SMS Popup makes it easier to read and reply to text messages. When you receive an SMS, a pop-up dialog with three buttons shows up on your screen. You can close the dialog, delete the SMS or reply to it. If you choose reply, you can compose a message by typing or using speech-to-text. You can also "preset" the reply ie. schedule it to reply later.
Some features can be configured in preferences. For example, you can customize notifications by changing the sound, vibration patterns, LED color (if available in your device) and the notification icon. You can do this for individual contacts or for all of them and you can also schedule reminders just in case you missed the first one. Finally, it allows you to enable privacy mode to hide sender name and message content.
There are some flaws, though… For example, there aren't any options for customizing its appearance, there's no way to reply to multiple contacts from the pop-up window and the pop-up only works when the screen is unlocked.
SMS Popup was developed by Adam K, an individual developer who has just released this app and its paid version with remarkable success.
We really appreciate apps that improve the performance of our Android and this is certainly one of them. Now replying to text messages is easier and faster. Highly recommendable.
*NEW: Improved support for when Hangouts is set as your SMS app (it does not work with regular Hangouts messages)

NOTE: SMS Popup does mark message as "read" - if the notification tray icon does not disappear, make sure you disable the system messaging app notifications and use SMS Popup's notifications instead. Please see FAQ for more information.

Updated to work with Hangouts
Constantly brings up old texts as if they were new. Why can't Android obviate the need for such hacky 3rd party apps like this one?
This was the only way to get a pop up message on my KitKat powered Nexus 5. Unfortunately, messages repeat sometimes, and sometimes pop up hours after they were originally sent and in the message box on the phone. No way to view conversation inside SMS po
I know there is a lot of negative feedbacks. For me, it was okay. Would appreciate if you can update your App. Improve the UI. Maybe a little themes like holo style or iOS7 (white). Change “Inbox to Open” in button notification setting. Also, make th
Works great, only thing I notice is that every so often the conservation I'm having flips the order of messages when I reply with the app instead of going through my messaging app. Not a deal breaker, but sometimes confusing. Otherwise, great little app t
Deleting and marking messages doesn't work in kitkat. Can it be fixed?
I am also having the problem in which replying from the popup results in my sms app (I use hangouts) showing that message sending failed. They always seem to go through, but this is enough of an issue for me that I am uninstalling. I need to know if my sm
Used to let me change color of the icon per contact. Other than that, I'm so glad I get to use the app again :) :)
