To do this, you have to change two settings on your Google+ settings page. But don't worry, the app will guide you, and it's super easy.
This is for the free version. The free version will occasionally and tactfully add the hashtag "#statusbutler" to your updates on the Google+ side. Much of the time, it won't, because you like it better that way. If you want to remove the hashtag entirely, you may upgrade to the paid version.
Note: As of summer 2013, Status Butler works with App.net (the other awesome social network you probably don't use on an hourly basis). It formerly worked with Twitter as well, but as of June 2013, Twitter is making it more difficult to repost tweets to other services, because they hate freedom and want to show you ads. (Side note: Status Butler will never show you ads.)
A lot of people ask, will Status Butler drain my battery with all that background checking and SMS-sending? The answer is no, because it automatically refreshes less often when your battery gets low. You can also increase or decrease the refresh frequency in the settings, until it is exactly to your liking. Status Butler aims to please like that.
You should be aware, however, that Status Butler requires SMS. This is because SMS is the only way to automatically post things into Google+ as of this writing. So if you get charged for each SMS, be mindful of how often you post updates. Status Butler works best for people who have unlimited texting plans. Also, Status Butler may collect anonymous usage statistics so that future versions can be more excellent.
At this point, you're probably wondering if Status Butler works in countries besides the US. Yes, yes it does. On the preferences page, scroll down to the bottom, and choose the appropriate setting for your country.
Please send the developers feedback on whether Status Butler is working for you. We endeavor to give satisfaction.
