I've used it in the back woods of Montana many times and find this app well worth it. Saves me $300 from having to buy a separate hand held GPS. Easy to use. But you have to load the area your going into before you get there so be sure to check your map range at different zoom levels before you are in the middle of someplace and don't get service to load the map.

I have used this now for about 2 years and love it. I have been tracking all my horseback riding miles on this app. I logged over 500 miles on this app in 2014 and have a record now of all my adventures. I love that it gives you the elevation changes, speed, moving time.etc. I have had a lot of my riding partners also buy this app and they are loving it too.

I have been using Backcountry Navigator for hiking and biking, however, I just pressed it into another sport - skiing. We were up in Steamboat for the past few days and I thought I would start recording a track for the entire day. At the end of the day I had a complete trail map of everything we skied including all of the stats. I didn't pause when riding the lifts, but could have also done tha

I have used this app for canoeing and hiking in Northern Minnesota. I will Duluth Trading Company use a map and compass as my primary navigational tool, but this app (with previously downloaded maps & waypoints) on my Samsung Galaxy S5 saves time when looking for a canoe portage or a trail through sections of blowdown. I have used both a solar charger and a battery pack to keep my phone juiced.
