Did you know that... there are other mapping services apart from the one that comes out Mountain view? Yes, there are some alternative mapping apps with reliable features trying to carve out a niche within the sector.
Mokbee Maps is one of those alternatives, with an inclusive approach. It features worlwide map coverage from different sources including Bing Maps (Hybrid and Street), Google Maps (Hybrid, Satellite, Street), Open Street Map and TerraPages Street. You can create an account of the latter directly from the app in order to make the most of the service.
You can create and update point-of-interest (POI) yourself as well as rate, review and add photos/content for any POI. You can search places by address or by keywords if it's a facility. Need to get an exact address? Long-press the map and it will pop-up instantly. Tap the scope to get to the current location. Getting directions is a feature which is only available in Australia so far.
In order to complete the experience you should also download GeoPersons and GeoSafe. With those apps you can locate friends on a map and map your routes.
Mokbee Maps features a user-friendly interface. However, it doesn't run as smoothly as expected. Likewise, the zoom in/out is quite unresponsive. The app should be enhanced overall regarding performance.
Regardless, an alternative for those who don't want one mapping service to rule us all.
