World Lens uses the back camera of your device to instantly translate printed words
Dictionaries, translator devices and all this sort of gadgets are almost becoming unuseful due to smart devices. Apps are adding functions to our mobile devices making the most of its built-in features. Word Lens turns your camera into a translator: you just need to target the printed word you want to translate (imagine ads, sign, posters, magazines...) with the back camera of your device and it will do the rest.
However, translating isn't the only action you can perform with Word Lens. Actually it also only brings two features which aren't translation tools. These features are "word reverse" (it reverses the words you target) and "erase words" (the word you target will disappear). However, although that's interesting, it's not really useful. Translating is probably its plus point.
This paid version includes full access to all the translation packages (so far English to Spanish, French and Italian and viceversa). Although it should be enhanced regarding accuracy, it works pretty good. The app is worth, bit expensive though.
ONE LANGUAGE PACK included with app purchase. Additional languages extra. Available language pairs: English ⇆ Spanish, English ⇆ French, English ⇆ Italian, English ⇆ German, English ⇆ Portuguese
Word Lens gives you translation on the go:
- NO NETWORK required - results appear immediately on your video screen when you need it, anywhere in the world.
- Easy to use, like the regular camera
- Look up translations by typing them in, or clicking on a word.
NOTE: This paid version of Word Lens INCLUDES ONE LANGUAGE pack. Additional language packs can be purchased within the app.
Available language pairs:
+ English ⇆ Spanish
+ English ⇆ French
+ English ⇆ Italian
+ English ⇆ German
+ English ⇆ Portuguese
Notes for getting the best quality out of your translations:
- Best used on clearly printed text (e.g. signs, menus)
- DOES NOT recognize handwriting or stylized fonts
- It's not perfect, but you can get the general meaning!
- Keep text in focus by holding it at least one hand-length away and tap-to-focus if autofocus is struggling.
- Turn on the flashlight (if available on your device)
- Zoom in (if available on your device)
Some features are device dependent. Not all device cameras can zoom, nor do all devices have a flashlight.

Ok, nothing is cooler in terms of translating software than this app. It's amazing how you can just look at a word and it augments it with the translation and a very good and close font to the original text. My only complaint is that the camera can be sh
I really wanted to love wordlens. I took it for a test drive in Spain while I was on vacation for a couple of weeks and I was greatly disappointed by how utterly useless it is at this point. It's like a very early alpha version of a product may one day wo
Incredible app and it doesn't need internet. WOW.
Just WOW! Samsung Galaxy Note 2 As I travel the world, I'll be adding more language packages. I got the Spanish, and it even works on warranty instructions! Great job, devs!
I would love to see the korean and japanese languages please ;) ...good job!
People should not install this even if it's for free It's nt as how it's shown in video, it's worse. Concept is excellent though working is nt good enough.
Very unstable, kept restarting my phone. Too bad it only happened after the refund period.
