Anemometer is an application for Android devices which analyzes the spectrum of sound and uses that to measure the wind velocity, having previously filtered out the human voice or other sounds around.
That information can be really useful if you're looking forward to doing outdoor activities which might be cancelled because of the wind: fly a kite, sail and other several ones. When you first start the app, you should set the zero wind level and then you will get a graph in which you can see the meters per second and the peak depending on where you are. Of course, it's also pretty interesting to amateur meteorologists and related hobbies.
Undoubtedly, this is a useful application in general, it works well and we're satisfied with the results. Only one thing, the design does the work but it could be a bit prettier but, in general, we recommend Anemometer for all people who have been some time dissappointed when they couldn't do their favorite activity because of the wind. Igor Kreslo is the developer of Anemometer and other science-related apps. They state that this is not a scientific instrument and that the accuracy depends on the device and other factors, so of course it won't replace a professional anemometer, but it's a useful app and weighs less than a Mb., perfect to have it installed awaiting for the moment to be used or serve as a curiosity. In short, a smart use of what a smartphone can do.
