In a magical world where wizards look like half Jawas and half characters taken from Loom PC game, and everything with that aura games made in Flash have, you might expect an original storyline (isn't the case) but seldom an so much original gameplay (which indeed is the case). In a sentence, Magicka should be considered a sidescroller beat'em-up, much in the like of Knights of the Round or even Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. However, the mobile nature of the game slows its pace in comparison to its arcade ancestors, and adds a fresh new concept called "strategy" (keep it on mind) and an other not so new we'll call "friendly fire".
It might happen that you don't understand this review at all but feel the urge to download this game anyway.
The great essential thing about Magicka is that you can make use of any of the usual RPG elements tapping to "store" them and then releasing them onto whatever stands in your way or in your friends'. You can also fulminate them, and these kind of so-called accidents will make the difference between life and death. Most of all, when you have elements stored you can't move and you can combine different elements to create new spells both helpful or devastating.
In the meanwhile, you'll be entertained by a storyline about saving the universe or so, richly voiced in a strange gibberish fictitious language. Lastly, aside of the fun tutorial and the even more fun campaign, don't miss the chance to gather your friends, make them wear magi Parcheesi robes and invoke a mayhem of colorful spells and monsters.
