Frontline Commando sequel set in WWII
Besides my humble opinion about how many interesting WWII scenarios, both real and uchronic, are left without a decent videogame, here's a proof on what Glu does best: an easy to play game, in this case as easy as cover, aim, shoot, cover, show a grenade now and then and follow the instructions on screen when needed: bazookas, heavy machine guns, enemies from both sides.
FL Commando: D-Day is as impressive as the original Frontline Commando, but by far more scened. Since the black and white footage to the radio voice overs and speeches, from the Stukas overflying your anti-aircraft position to those Panzers roaring in the distance, everything is beautifully presented. Perhaps too beautiful, because even when there're blood and booms and ra-ta-tas everywhere, hardcore gamers would have liked more dirt and guts, but that's a matter of taste, and the more casual players will enjoy the overall cleanness. Indeed, gameplay is intense and thrilling (these sandbags won't last forever, dude!) but not over-dramatic. It may be The Landing, but it has to be pleasant and enjoyable.
As usual, game's free, though you eventually might need some in-app purchases to keep your pace. The game can take a while to load, but less than it'd be expected when looking at the specs. Regrettably, there aren't either stalking, non-combat missions; or German POV defense ones: that would be icing on the cake, a cake already filled with your favorite jam. In exchange, there are 5 complete campaigns (sure you know the names: Utah, Juno, Omaha...)
Great job, Glu. Now, may we ask for an update with missions somewhere else, or will there be a sequel in 'Nam?
Lead the charge on D-Day as the tip of the spear in the largest Allied invasion of WW2! Defeat the occupation forces and take back France; storm the beaches, clear the trenches and liberate towns as you battle through the countryside of Normandy.
SEE AND FEEL THE ACTION!
Experience the ultimate 3rd person shooter with stunning console quality visuals, precise controls, advanced physics, destructible environments and full voiceovers. Jump into the heat of battle and push your device to the limit!
HUGE SINGLE-PLAYER CAMPAIGN!
Experience 5 separate campaigns with 145 separate missions based on the actual beach landings; Juno, Sword, Utah, Gold and Omaha. Destroy powerful tanks and cannons to allow allied forces to advance. Grab a stationary gun and unload against fortified positions. Man the Ack-Ack anti-aircraft guns to take down bombers and their escorts before they can release their payloads.
RUN THROUGH THE WARZONE!
Battle your way into the heart of enemy territory! Run through the battlefield dodging mines and leaping barriers as you move to the next cover point to avoid enemy fire. Emerge from destructible cover points to engage waves of enemies!
COMMAND AN ARSENAL OF DEADLY WEAPONS!
Take to the frontline with an array of classic weapons from World War 2. Grab a historic rifle to take down enemies accurately or, if you prefer, a machine-gun to unleash a hail of bullets. Call in Artillery strikes against entrenched enemy soldiers or shoulder a bazooka to reduce a tank to rubble.
Frontline Commando: D-Day is free to play, but you can choose to pay real money for some extra items.
