First off, it doesn't matter that you see caves and a starship on the screeshots, this isn't the millionth remake of Nemesis. Therefore, shoot'em-up gamers, begone.
Indeed, this game is much more interesting than shooting at everything moving around. It's about exploration and mining, as you pilot a weak probing ship in its mission to gather resources and organic evidences, and map the area. This takes place on a planet called Kratoss (y'know, Nike's brother, we aren't talking about trainers) where an ancient alien civilization lived and grew yonder, so part of your mission will be to dig out and reactivate arcane technologies which will give you access to new zones and switch traps on as well. By the way, maps are gorgeous no matter how random they are, and all design is imbued with a fitting Starcraft-like feeling.
In short, it's a maze-like side-scroller, designed to be played and enjoyed with care. There's hidden stuff and times when is better to hold your breath and time your tap with surgical precision. Music is awesome though you have to unlock it by the sweat of your brow; there's a plot you have to unfold step by step (oooh, the fate of mankind is surprisingly at stake) and an amazing set of stats of gameplay (why don't all games have this?) make of this game definitively a must, even when it isn't for everyone. Perhaps its worst flaw is the lack of a trial version.
Gameplay:
Gene Effect is a side scrolling action-adventure. Explore ancient alien mines on the planet Kratoss. GT-P5113, but I'm betting any Tab 2 will have this issue. Waiting for a fix. EDIT: Go to the graphics settings and put the brightness all the way up. Still dark but maybe its supposed to be. Playable now, at least.

There appears to be some kind of bug. Once you select a mission (Briefing) it dosent load, but only force closes itself out.

It all works but the tasks are all repetitive and you can't tell one level from the next

Great graphics, gameplay and story. Loads of ingame features - sound tracks, stories etc. Really don't understand why this game hasn't sold more copies. I discovered it by accident and can't put it down.
