"Sniper's battle"

Reviewed by: Emmanuel Lund / Aug 31, 2011

Gunman is a paintball-like game with neither stains nor bruises

This game uses the back camera of your device as a sniper. It detects opponents by means of their shirt color. That's it, you choose shirt color of your opponents, black and when you hit one of them it counts as killed. If you hit an opponent with a different shirt color it counts as missed. The purpose of the game is to beat as many opponents as you can. Your opponents will be your friends or anonymous people on the streets, depending on the game mode you choose. There are two basic game modes:

ONE on ONE: Anyone is fair game. Just choose shirt color and go around (virtually) shooting people.
Multiplayer: A death match versus your friends. You must be near each other and have Internet connection (3G/4G/WiFI) for a properly performance. You can organize time-limit parties, amount-of-kills parties or unlimited. Get your imagination flying and create your own game rules.

Controls are quite easy. Just scope your opponent and tap the screen to shoot. Shake your device to reload gun. Bear in mind that both hits and misses count, so make the most of your bullets. At the end of the game there's a summary of your performance. As you play the game you get in-game money to upgrade new weapons (there's a store and a bank). Make your bankrol grow and buy your favorite gun (better guns have room for more bullets).

Screenshots are taken during the gameplay. This way you can remind your best shots and show off your friends. We've to admit that this game concept is really original . However, it main catch is its performance: it freezes and crashes too often, even over high-end devices.

Gunman has been developed by Mambo Studios, the developer of other similar game called "Paintball"

Developer's original description available here
Laser tag meets urban paintball in an epic battle against your friends--a heart pounding adventure that puts you and your Android Phone directly in the line of fire.

You have been recruited to join an elite unit charged with taking out rogue agents (your friends) in the local area. Find a quick hiding place (a balcony or a dark corner will suffice) and dig in before the shots start flying. Gunman takes Android Phone espionage to the next level with a gun locker, a multitude of weapons, a health bar and virtual payouts. Earn bankrolls in Gunman for taking out rogue agents and winning multiplayer missions, load up on more weapons from the Gun Locker (AK-47, grenade launcher, shotgun to name a few) and beware of damage to your health when your screen flashes red. Get ready to bring the mayhem in Gunman!

***NOTE: Like laser tag or paintball, Gunman is meant to be played with your friends. Of course you can play with yourself but imagine playing Laser Tag alone - not quite the same, right? So grab some friends, get them to download Gunman and go have fun!

THE RUN DOWN:
- Gunman can be played anywhere but is best played in well lit areas
- Gunman uses the Android camera with a scope overlay
-Select a time-limit for a quick match or the unlimited option for an extended battle
-Specify your opponent's shirt color so that your enemy can be detected
-Both hits and misses are counted in Gunman so accuracy is important
-Multiplayer mode requires a internet connection to connect participants (3g, 4g, or wifi, works best with wifi)
-When you get hit by your opponent your phone will vibrate
-When you need to reload your weapon, shake your phone
-At the end of the game, the scores are tallied in a mission summary
-Screenshots captured during gameplay allow you to review your best
shots (and catch cheaters)
-You can save your favorite shots to your photo album or send them to your Twitter followers at the end of the match

Gunman is played in two modes:

GUNMAN ONE on ONE: Anyone is fair game. Specify your enemy’s shirt color and go wild. Our enemy recognition technology will take care of the body count; you take care of the shooting.

GUNMAN MULTIPLAYER: A free-for-all bloodbath. It's you versus the world. Take out rogue agents in the local area and show them no mercy. The score matters, so watch your back.
