Google's own geocatching game
It's odd to write about a "Google game". It's even odder that Google is so adamant with its policy (Gmail, G+, Gwhatever) of closed invitations system, no matter how useful may it be to developers. However, at the end of the day Google owns the best free map app so far, so it shouldn't strike anyone that they try to play with their beloved toy for a while, and Google has a name in what we could call "opening new fields" on their products.
As you surely already know, Ingress is a geocatching game, played along your daily real life, as if you were a secret agent fighting for or against an upcoming alien invasion. Well, indeed that's what is about: earthlings (virtually) wrestling over power places in a never-ending, world-wide, massive multi-player, augmented-reality game. Sounds great, even for those not keen on this kind of stuff. There's an awesome tutorial to understand what are you playing at, at the end of which you will have to choose a faction, either Resistance or Empire, ehem, I meant, Enlightened.
In short, I wanted to leave to the end this couple of pretentious Morpheo-like sentences: "You have downloaded what you believe to be a game, but it is not" and "saving the world is dangerous. If you don't want to assume this risk, now is your chance to close this app and go back to your normal life". They may be too rough for a game, but puts you into the thrilling atmosphere of it. Game can be intensively played or just enjoyed for a while when you are walking around, taking your dog for a walk or jogging.
Anyway, perhaps is too soon to ponder whether Ingress will be the antepenultimate Google's passing craze or if it will begin a golden era of geo-catching games...meanwhile, we'll wonder if there are enough players, how much will they play and what will happen when Google launches G's AR glasses, in case there was any relationship between the arch-hyped G's product and this game.

Ingress transforms the real world into the landscape for a global game of mystery, intrigue, and competition.
Our future is at stake. You must choose a side.
A mysterious energy has been unearthed by a team of scientists in Europe. The origin and purpose of this force is unknown, but some researchers believe it is influencing the way we think. We must control it or it will control us.
“The Enlightened” seek to embrace the power that this energy may bestow upon us. “The Resistance” struggle to defend, and protect what’s left of our humanity.
Install Ingress and transform your world.
The World is the Game
Move through the real world using your Android device and the Ingress app to discover and tap sources of this mysterious energy. Acquire objects to aid in your quest, deploy tech to capture territory, and ally with other players to advance the cause of the Enlightened or the Resistance.
The struggle is being played out globally. Track the progress of players around the world, plan your next steps, and communicate with others using an Intelligence map.
What is the Niantic Project?
Is this just a game? An Investigation Board (http://www.google.com/+NianticProject) filled with cryptic clues and secret codes awaits. The story evolves everyday. Powerful secrets and game tech are there to be unlocked.
The struggle to save the planet spans the entire world. Groups of people acting together can be more effective than individuals acting alone. Cooperation across neighborhoods, cities, and countries will be needed to achieve the ultimate victory.
Note: Ingress uses the "Read_Contacts" app permission to make it easier to invite your friends to join you in your mission to save the world. The app will not contact anyone without your explicit action to recruit a particular friend.

Once you get the basics, the true fun begins. Really nice graphics, a few lags but I hope that in the future it would be possible to use even camera to see the portals...that would be super-awesome :-) However, I own LG L90 (LG-D405n) and since last update I am unable to use automatic compass for some reason. I try it with Google Maps and there it does work.
Hi. I have problem on compas. It can't move dynamic. I have select in device menu then compas dynamic, but nothing happens.. In Google Maps my compas work fine. Please help to fix it. I will rate 5 after it.. Thanks..
I love this glorified game of Capture The Flag, but some updates are better than others. I've noticed more lag since the last one, and it makes me miss opportunities when in a moving vehicle. Otherwise, I'm hooked. Makes public transportation more tolerable.
I run a kitkat on my LG G2. Since the first time I played, GPS already have problem when try to login. While in the other hand, I can lock my position within 2 seconds on Google Maps and other application that need location.. But not with ingress. I've play for 7 months. Every time now I try to login, it only shows globe loading screen. I'm on level 8 for 3 months already, and if it is not like th
Just terrible. Issues with communication, sync...
I like the game play but it asks for permanent WiFi connection.I know most people have data now days but if you could make it playable offline that would be awesome.Or make it so you can go to portals and say hack and when you get a WiFi connection it will count (like a late response)The game is awesome otherwise and keep adding cool stuff
