"Play classic Backgammon"

Reviewed by / Jun 06, 2011

An easy and addictive way of playing Backgammon in your smarthphone

The ancient game in your smartphone: everyone knows it, although not everybody knows how to play. Still, don't worry if that is the case, since you have a good and easy list of Game Rules to learn.

The options are the following: you can choose to be White or Black, change the level of difficulty from 1 to 5, select the name of rounds and activate or deactivate Doubling Cube. You can play by yourself or with a friend, so this is not only a one player game.

When playing, the board will tell you the Pip Counts (the total distance that pieces from one side must move in order to get them all together into that side's home); so the lower the number, the closer you are to win.

When you roll the dice, the board will specify the legal moves by showing them in green and you'll have to choose your best strategy. Options for undoing, hints and save and quit are also available.

It seems that some users are complaining about the convenience of the opponent's dice rolls, so maybe this can be improved by adding an easier mode. Anyway, we assume that the ways of randomness are inscrutable.

Be sure to check this game out if you want to entertain yourself by playing a classic game by yourself or with a friend, as well as exercise your mind. AI Factory Limited is specialized in developing classic games for smartphones in an excellent way, so if you like this one you're bound to enjoy the others, such as Chess, Four in a line, Sudoku, etc.

It's a poor design when you allow the CPU to roll four straight double sixes followed by a double 2 and another double six; the odds are 10million to1.

It has a decent, but not great AI. I won the first 12 matches (7 point matches). It doesn't take board position into account when accepting doubles. It gets backgammoned when it could've been just gammoned. It bears pieces off poorly.

False! Have you played the game? At difficulty #1 and when you cant move your eaten pawn how come the AI gets doubles after doubles 4 times in a row. You really have to adress this issue. You cannot call this randomness. Yes true how can a program wich isent alive cheat? Well really try it! Play it! Youll see what i mean. -1 star for your reply since i find isent true and dosent adress the issue.
