    Carcassonne's review

    Published: 2011-12-01, by Peter Warrior.

Mobile version of the board game "Carcassonne"

    • It's as the board game, in every point.
    • Seamless perfomance
    • Easy to learn, hard to master
    • No demo version available.

"Ye olde game of bein' a Lord"

Carcassonne, the board game, is one of those games that seem they were old before the war, when it's indeed a modern game that became a classic as soon as it was released. It takes its name from an archetypal medieval southern French village.

If you haven't ever played it, don't worry. There are just a few rules clearly explained in a brief yet concise tutorial. It's a turn based game where players create together a landscape placing tiles and earn points deploying followers on. Turn by turn, players try to earn as many points as they can controlling towns, roads, farms and monasteries. There's no fight, just strategy. In fact, as luck is rather no involved, it's mere strategy.

Game can be played alone through twelve different challenges; against AI foes (it should be highlighted that AI plays quite well and it's quite a challenge to defeat it) or, and here's the best part of it, with up to four human players via hotseat and online multiplayer mode. Includes the expansion pack "The river", which adds river tiles.

In addition to English, are also supported Spanish, German and French. An odd midi-like troubadour theme accompanies all along the match. Graphics are functional, resembling the original board and pieces. No lags, freezes nor forceclosings detected. Loading times are brief and no additional downloads are required.

Highly recommendable for every board game or strategy lover, parents and children alike.

The tiles are worthwhile so give it a trial before it goes out of style.

A game that wants to make and manage phone calls and have access to my contacts. HA, NOPE!

Perfect Carcassonne, some people just don't know the rules of the game. Just a bit worried, I bought all the expansions, but hasn't seen a news update in over 2 years.

Having played the iPad version of this game for years, I figured I'd try the Android version. This version is weak by comparison: No chat. No captured square indicator. Bad synth music. Terrible AI. Buggy multiplayer. A crash on my first quick match. No time indicator. No time limit on moves in the (poorly named) "quick match". This it in desperate need of an update. And this developer needs to stop ruining great board games.

If the phone battery dies while playing the game ends. Would be great if you can have multiple quick games operating at once.
