Catan is the Android version of the popular board game "Settlers of Catan"
If ever played board game "Settlers of Catan", you already know how addictive it is. Now the game came to Android keeping the essence of its original gameplay and rules. Bear in mind that this is the basic version of Settles of Catan, with no expansions packs. You can upgrade to the expansions packs buy purchasing them from the in-app store.
From those who haven't ever played, on "Settlers of Catan" you embody one out of four settlers that has reached an island named Catan. Your purpose is to become the one who first rules the island. In order to achieve it you will have to earn 10 points of victory (or more, depending on the goal you set) before than your opponents do. You will get points of victory by different ways: building settlements and upgrading them to cities, collecting development cards, making large routes or using knight cards. The expansion packs add more variables. In your rise to the throne, you will have to collect different materials, trade with your opponents or internationally (with the bank), build roads, settles and cities. Do it strategically, and smartly, if you want to be the first on reaching the needed points of victory.
Catan's Android version has been certainly well-crafted. It's been set in a cute layout and it's really easy to get the hang of it. You can play two different modes: "custom" which allows you to play against CPU or real players (up to 3 opponents) with the basic rules. You can choose among different characters. Each one of them have different skills. The "campaign mode" only can be played by upgrading to the Seafarers expansion pack from in-app purchase. There are more expansions packs though.
Catan has been developed by USM, an emerging developing company who has also launched another great game "Ingenious".
True to the original game, you can compete with up to four players for the most settlements, the longest roads and the largest army. You can trade with each other and claim the precious land with all its resources.
Challenge other Catan fans online via cross-platform multiplayer to prove your strategy skill or play against the AI:
Various computer opponents, each with their own individual characteristics, will prove themselves worthy competitors: the pirate Jean, who knows no compromise, Vincent the merchant, who never allows himself to be cheated, Sean the knight, who takes what is rightfully his...
The popular Catan expansions "Seafarers" and "Cities and Knights" are available as In-App purchases.
The complete Seafarers expansion includes more than 10 additional scenarios with an extensive campaign. Become Harbormaster, discover new islands and extra game elements like ships, gold fields, treasures and pirates. Ahoy!
The Cities and Knights expansion introduces various new gameplay mechanics that add even more variety to Catan. Invest new trade goods in city improvements to build one of the three metropolises of Catan – but beware of the barbarians attracted by Catan’s new wealth! You’ll need your best knights to fend them off! C&K contains a short campaign and 7 challenging maps.

Question: Why do I have to download additional files after purchasing?
Answer: The download from Google play includes the basic game data and a tool that will determine your device’s display resolution and then download the optimal graphics data for your device.
Question: Which Android security permissions does Catan need and why?
Answer: “Storage” to write data to the SD or move the game data, “Network communication” to download game data and access the In App Store and “system tools” to check if Catan is already running to resume a game.
Question: I bought one of the expansions but after an update, reinstallation of Catan or after restoring my phone the expansion seems gone?
Answer: Don’t worry; your initial purchase is already saved in your Google account. However for technical reasons you might have to select “Buy” again. Confirm and a message will tell you that you’ve already purchased it. You will NOT be billed twice!
Question: I lost my campaign progress after reinstalling, updating from or when restoring my phone. Is there any way to restore it?
Answer: Savegames from old versions can usually be restored automatically. For all other cases we’ve integrated a cheat code: Enter campaign mode and go to select player. Enter „CatanWarp*“ (* = 1–15, e.g "CatanWarp5") as your player name and confirm. Exit the game via the home button. Enter your phone’s settings menu. Select applications/manage applications/Catan/ and then “Force Stop”. Restart Catan. The campaign can now be continued from the specified level number by selecting “New scenario *”.

I travel a lot and enjoy the game, it's just very annoying that it needs to update so often to run. It's a single player game! My recommendation is to make the single player mode available without the need for the constant updates. Other than that, it's a great game. I still update it, but it seems like the update frequency that is required to play single player is a bit excessive.
This game is so much fun but I think the game board game version is way more fun personally;)
Like many others, I am stuck on campaign 6. I also noticed the thing about rolling 7 when you have 8 or more cards. Also once you get near a win, the AI can rob you literally 5 times before you get a turn. Not to mention the AI will make bad trades that let them get ahead. Also last game the AI won with like FIVE victory cards. It feels extremely cheap. They could definitely improve the AI and sto
Every time a 7 is rolled, the computers go after the player. It gets very tedious when all of your resources are stolen, and of course, the material you need most. Just an update after months of owning game, still stacked against player even though I'm far from being in the lead. This makes me want to stop playing.
After playing thus game for a week, I have decided to stop playing. The robber ai makes the game unplayable. You regularly get robbed 3 times a round making it extremely unlikely that you can do anything for several turns other than watch the computer play... The computer players seem to choose the human whether he is winning our not
I am incredibly happy this is on the app store and I spend hours on this game. Although one major problem I have is the choppy design. If a developer is selling his game it would probably be for the best to continually update and work out the kinks in the offline and online gameplay. Glitches run rampant which can make online gameplay kind of frustrating. Additionally, why is that there is a price
I'm amazed at how well the game plays, and the user interface is well nigh perfect. I do see what others have been commenting on, the computer much seems to stack the dice rolls. If you are ahead and over 8 cards you will see a 7 nearly every time. Very predictable and not at all random. Then you can expect to see your robber blocked numbers rolled. My belief is that they do keep the whole set
