"The father of chess has come back to life in Android"

Reviewed by / Dec 04, 2013

Chaturanga is somewhat a four players chess.

Chaturanga is considered the father of chess. It comes from India and yes, the board resembles a chess board, but unlike chess, there are four teams and pieces are and move slightly different (there are elephants and ships). Oh, and there are two dice, too, with green and red faces. If both dice result green you can make up to two moves. There's no "chess", so when your king ("raja") is captured you lose without prior warning.

Keeping all that in mind, it seems that Chaturanga may be somewhat of a four players death battle chess, and in fact it is. Game's absolutely chaotic, able to drive nuts any experienced chess player. Luckily, there's a lenghty help file explaining the rules and a setting menu where you can modify some rules. As it's a four players game, you can play alone against three IAs (who don't team together) or start a hotseat play with up to three more friends.

It's great that developers as Parkovski bring us new and original games to our devices. Although graphics are too simple, there isn't any kind of animation and the game dares to forceclose now and then, we have to thank him to let us play a game that we didn't ever expected to exist.

I play this game frequently. It is a simple game, and the computer is good enough to keep things entertaining. I play it against a friend as well, each of us taking 2 armies. When playing a person the game changes. Tactics that work against the computer fall short. Dice rolls make this game intense, because rolls determine what pieces are in play. A player wants to move certain pieces to win, but

Simple game combo of strategy and chance. Games are quick, a minute to a few minutes so no commitment. When I win it just feel so good!

I was honestly contemplating suicide before finding this game. Now that I have, life is worth living again. Thanks parkovsky.

Not all that pretty on tablet, but not a huge deal or anything. But one thing-- latest research by historians suggest that this game is properly called "Chaturaja." The actual Chaturanga was apparently a 2-player game without dice.

Field too small, no info how to move and AI looks like simple random

Little game but interesting game play. A bit too few really useful figures but hey just my opinion. Try it!
