Yes, this is it. The very own Square defense game, set with characters and feeling of Final Fantasy Tactics, but chewed and chopped to fit a very much simpler game.Mechanics are the same as anywhere else: you have to defend a path from an incoming single file of dreadful enemies (all the dreadful they are able to be in FF Tactics design) by placing towers aka units along the way. Yes, it's strategy, though it hasn't strategy at all.
However, if Square did this on purpose, we should have to find out why, and the answer comes to mind as soon as you play the first levels. Even though it's a pretty typical defense game and doesn't pretend to be anything else, it's overwhelmingly difficult. You have to ration every single gold coin if you want to get perfect scores, and as -fortunately- there are more units than in the vast majority of similar games, if a strategy doesn't work at all, fret not, there are several zillion different combinations awaiting to be tried.
A special mention is deserved by the music, which has always been Square's signature. A the wide array of winks to Final Fantasy paraphernalia, chokobos includes, is the cherry on top.
Recommended for hardcore defense gamers. This is your biggest challenge.

Great game but too small on Galaxy S4
This is a good game. Great in fact, very fun and very hard. But the fact that it keeps a third of the screen black is something that annoys the crap out of me, and something I've never seen in a mobile game before. Would absolutely be five stars if they updated it to fix the weird resolution.
I have this on my ps3 as well and I love it. It definitely makes you think and there are multiple ways to solve each board. Addictive.
Playing this at 1/4th the size of my phone isn't funny. WTH? No updates?
Square. Why would you make a game that doesn't fill the screen? I am using the Samsung NotePro tablet. Crysal Defenders is so small on my screen I can't even tell what's going on and the controls are clunky as a result of the tiny screen. Please make this full screen so I can enjoy this game. I've already paid for it, so I would like to play it as well.
Though I warn you it is difficult. Not your average tower defence.
Does not seem to go full screen on my device. Centers itself but takes up maybe 50% of the screen at best. Checked in the options for a fix but no luck. HTC One M8
