Duel of Fate's review

An original TCG with animated monsters

  • Lovely artwork, music and animations
  • Too linear, lack of a complete tutorial

"My faith's burning! - Mine's wet, I win"

When we talk about TCGs for mobile devices, there's always that long, reeking Magic the Gathering shadow over them. However, some developers such as Gamevil have made a huge effort to bring some innovations into the genre, mostly to monetize their games better and simplify the rules and make them more intuitive.

In Duel of Fate there are no mana cards to tap, and colors are summarized in earth, water and fire (water wins over fire, earth over water and so on). Although every monster card may have special abilities, namely bleeding, poison and all the usual ones, the most important ability is to automatically defeat opposite color cards. in addition, there are item cards to boost your creatures and powerful spells to change game's rules for a turn. Meanwhile, every time you defeat an opponent, you get new cards to add to your deck.

Artwork and music are lovely, perhaps too Pokémon-like sometimes. Something actually appreciated are animations every time a monster attacks. However, we'd like to enjoy more of avatars and a complete tutorial, because game's quite chaotic the first time and till you get the hang of it. Multiplayer mode is nice, though it wouldn't strike anyone.

Duel of Fate is free, though you can spend real money to purchase card packs and get more powerful cards. Give it a go.
