Chess games have lived together with mobile industry since the precise moment that devices were able to deal with them. Later, with the advent of smartphones, they evolved and inherit the features computer chess games have, but they used to lack some kind of interactivity between players.
The first and most important feature of Chess Mates is that you can play with your friends or against a random player. Clearly inspired by correspondence chess, there's no need to play in real time and you can keep several matches at once, receiving a kind push notification as soon as your rival has made his or her move. This way of playing allows to participate in tournaments and be ranked in an online leaderboard.
In addition, there are a few chess sets available (zombie set is really innovative), but they keep the simplicity of the standard one so they don't interfere in gameplay as other games with more baroque sets do. There are no animations or anything that could slow down the game, which is focused on a clean user interface and the exact amount of options and menus. However, there isn't any option to play against the AI, nor any guide to learn how to play the game. Anyway, it's an excellent app for any chess player, no matter how you look at it, perfect to keep yourself trained with human foes and improve your "mental-fencing" skills.
This complete version gets you rid of ads and helps Epic Pocket Software to keep their excellent work.
In short, one of the best chess apps out there so far. Recommendable.
