One of the best additions to mobile game industry were whatever-defense games. 11bit is a highly specialized Polish studio who lands on this genre giving it a major twist and taking care of a lot of little yet wonderful details. As an example, the first thing that will catch your attention are both the amazing intro and the war-film music. Don't forget that is required an additional initial download of 150Mb, so reserve some space in your SDcard.
This is the scenario: year 2018 AD, an alien army from outer space has come to Earth to spoil whatever they find, and have settled their alien camp right in Baghdad, supposedly for technical reasons, though it might be the weather, sights or whatever. Your goal is to accomplish a series of missions around and inside the red zone where the alien base is. There's no room for diplomacy here, they are an evil alien invasion force and you play the role of the good earthling defense army, with the little twist that they are the one who defend their base and you are attacking them to send them back to either their planet or hell. Yes, it's like any other defense game but playing with the attacking side and accomplishing rescue missions by the way.
Game's about strategy. You have to plot the route your troops will take and manage your tightwad resources in order to survive and successfully end your mission. Every level gets ramblier as streets form little mazes scattered with enemy towers. Your troops have different stats and you, as their commander, should admin special aces up your sleeve such as smoke screens, healing and repairing kits , whenever you see that nothing is going as it was planned, you can tap on the strategy button to reset your routes. As you advance in the game, some missions allow you to take over enemy technology and upgrade your units. In fact, if we haven't ever heard anything about defense games, we''ll be talking about a raw strategy game instead.
There are three difficulty levels, from casual to extreme, though there isn't a standard or normal mode, it jumps from casual to advanced. Difficulty can be chosen at the start of every stage and it's a multiplier regarding score. Game keeps all the time a high-budget feeling, learning curve is more than adequate and, in short, this is a great game fated to mark every single defense or strategy game to come throughout 2012. Missions last for five minutes or so, so there you have all the advantages of casual gaming and mobile devices mixed with a right balance of brainy gameplay and technical requirements (android 2.2, large screen recommended but not required)
We know that there isn't a lite version to check it out first, and that would be its greatest flaw. Anyway, it's absolutely recommendable even if you are not keen on defense games or if you think it's time to play something brainier instead of nonsense games.
